What is a hacking jacket?
A hacking jacket is an English country riding jacket. It is cut waisted, with a longer skirt so it sits well in the saddle, slanted pockets that are easy to reach when mounted, a single or double vent, and a structured shoulder. It is usually made in tweed. Today the English hacking jacket is worn far from the stables — as a tweed sport coat in town and the country.
The cut: structured, waisted, long-line
Our men's tweed hacking jacket is a Savile Row-style cut, made bespoke and half-canvassed:
- Structured shoulder for a clean, confident line.
- Waisted body that follows your shape and flares gently over the hips.
- Long-line skirt — a little longer than a regular sport coat.
- Single-button front — the single-button long-line jacket is the most dramatic.
- Slanted pockets.
- Single long vent or double vents, for movement and a neat back.
Every detail is decided with Vijay at your fitting and cut to your pattern, not adjusted from a stock block.
Tweed cloth and colours
We cut hacking jackets in heavy tweeds with real body, warm enough for autumn and winter. Colours we stock include midnight blue, black, ivory/white, maroon, light blue, brown, orange, purple, red and green. Browns and greens give the classic country tweed jacket; maroon, purple or orange make a bolder statement; midnight blue and black work well in town.

Riding jacket and country wear
The hacking jacket began as a riding jacket, and its cut still serves anyone who spends time outdoors: long enough to cover you, waisted so it doesn't flap, with pockets you can reach. It is the natural jacket for country weekends, field days, race meetings, autumn walks and travel to cooler climates.
How to wear a tweed hacking jacket
- With jeans: dark denim, an oxford shirt or knit, and boots — the easiest way to wear tweed today.
- With flannels: grey or cream flannel trousers for a classic country look.
- As a tweed sport coat or tweed blazer: with chinos or cords and a tie for the office or a smart dinner.
- With a roll-neck: in colder months, a fine knit under the jacket.
A bespoke shirt cut to your pattern completes it — ask about collars that sit well under a tweed lapel.

FAQ
What is the difference between a hacking jacket and a tweed sport coat?
A hacking jacket is a type of tweed sport coat with riding details: more waisted, a longer skirt, slanted pockets and longer vents.
Can I wear a hacking jacket with jeans?
Yes — it's one of the best ways to wear it. Dark denim and boots keep it relaxed.
Is a hacking jacket the same as a riding jacket?
It began as an English riding jacket for hacking out on horseback. Ours are made for everyday wear but keep the riding cut.
What tweed colours do you have?
Colours we stock include midnight blue, black, ivory/white, maroon, light blue, brown, orange, purple, red and green. Vijay will show current stock at your fitting.
What does Savile Row-style mean here?
It describes the cut — structured, waisted and clean-lined — made bespoke to your own pattern by Rashmi in Hong Kong.
Do you ship to the UK and Australia?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Shipping to the US is free.
Is it really bespoke?
Yes. Every client gets an individual pattern, cut from their own measurements and kept on file. Our jackets are half-canvassed.
