What to Bring to a Custom Tailor Appointment in Hong Kong
A tailor appointment in Hong Kong goes faster and turns out better when you arrive prepared. You do not need a long checklist, but a few practical items and a clear idea of what you want make a real difference. This guide covers what to bring to Rashmi Custom Tailors on Nathan Road, what to leave at the hotel, and how to book so Larry has a slot ready when you land.
Book before you pack
Visits are by appointment only (no walk-ins). Message WhatsApp +852 9745 7058 or email [email protected] with the dates you will be in Hong Kong and what you want made. Larry confirms the time, and you can plan the rest of your trip around fitting and collection.
Men's suits are usually ready in 24 to 48 hours. Women's suits take at least 3 days. If your stay is short, say so when you book so we can tell you honestly whether a suit fits the calendar or whether shirts alone make more sense on this trip. Clothes to wear to the fitting
Wear something close to how you dress for work or the event you are ordering for. A well-fitting shirt and trousers (or a dress you already like, for women's suits) help Larry see your posture and how you move. Soft shoes are easier than heavy boots if we need accurate trouser length.
Bring one outfit you already wear often — a favourite jacket, a shirt that fits in the shoulders, or trousers that sit where you like them. It is not for copying; it is a reference so we can talk about what works on you and what does not.
Photos and references help
Save a few clear photos on your phone: suits or shirts you like, colours that suit you, and any details you care about (lapel shape, pocket style, cuff). Screenshots from a trip or a wedding lookbook are fine. You do not need a mood board; three to five images are enough.
If you already know the occasion — office, wedding, travel, evening — say so up front. That steers fabric weight and colour faster than browsing every swatch.
Measurements and your own pattern
You do not need to measure yourself at home before you come. Larry takes your measurements at the shop. Every client gets their own pattern cut from those measurements and kept on file, so later reorders (another suit, more shirts) can happen without a full remeasure even if you are not back in Hong Kong soon.
If you have old measurement notes from another maker, you can bring them, but we will still measure you ourselves. They are useful only as background.
What you do not need to bring
You do not need fabric. We have about 2,000 cloths in the shop for you to feel in person. You do not need a deposit in cash unless you prefer it; payment is confirmed at the appointment. You also do not need a long product wishlist — we make suits, shirts (including dress, casual and stretch polos), trousers (dress, casual and stretch athletic), tuxedos, smoking jackets, winter coats and lightweight jackets for men, and suits for women. Pricing for women's suits is confirmed at your consultation. At our Hong Kong shop, suits start from HK$3,500 and shirts from HK$580; the final figure depends on the cloth and the details you choose.
Where to come, and with whom
Our shop is at 12/F, Block A, Suite A3, Burlington Arcade, 90–94 Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, about a 2-minute walk from Tsim Sha Tsui MTR Exit B1. Hours are Monday to Saturday 9am to 8pm, and Sundays and public holidays 10am to 6pm. Larry handles Hong Kong fittings himself.
