What to Look for in a Custom Wedding Suit

A wedding is one of life's most important moments, and your suit should reflect that. Whether you are getting married in a grand ballroom, at a beach resort or in your hometown church, a custom wedding suit ensures you look your best, feel confident and honour the significance of the day.

1. Fit is everything

The fit of your suit sets the tone for the whole look. A well-tailored suit should:

• Sit cleanly on the shoulders, with no dents or overhang
• Gently follow the line of the chest and waist
• Allow you to move, sit, dance and hug comfortably, without excess fabric
• Show a little shirt cuff at the sleeve
• Have trousers that fall cleanly onto your shoes

2. Choose the right fabric for the season and setting

Weddings can be formal or relaxed, but the fabric must suit both your style and the setting. As a general guide:

• Wool and mohair: crisp and elegant, perfect for traditional ceremonies and cooler weather
• Linen and cotton: cool and relaxed, ideal for beach weddings or warm destinations
• Velvet or silk blends: add richness for winter weddings and black-tie events

3. Tuxedo or suit? Know the difference

• Tuxedo: best for evening or black-tie weddings. It typically features satin lapels, covered buttons and is worn with a bow tie.
• Suit: more versatile, and can be styled formally or semi-formally. Often preferred for day weddings or destination events, and easier to wear again after the big day.

4. Personalise the details

The advantage of going bespoke is making the suit truly yours. Options to think about include:

• A lining colour that matches your wedding theme, or simply makes you smile
• Lapel style and width
• Pocket shapes and button types
• Trouser style and how you like them to sit

You will leave with a suit that is not just sharp, but meaningful.

5. Plan ahead

We recommend grooms get measured at least 8 to 10 weeks before the wedding. That gives you time to choose without pressure, fit in any travel, and coordinate with the rest of the wedding party.

If your timeline is tighter, do not panic. Men's suits are usually ready in 24 to 48 hours at our Hong Kong shop, so a last-minute order can often be done. Bridesmaids, mothers or brides looking for a tailored suit should note that women's suits take at least 3 days.

• Once your suit is ready: try everything on with your wedding shoes and shirt
• The week of the wedding: hang your suit somewhere airy and keep it in a breathable garment bag
